Publishing has been a very important area in Library Science over the years, mainly due to its processes capable of modifying information into different formats. Considering the aspects that led to its creation and all the factors that transformed it over the years, until it became the Publishing we know today, in addition to those that were important for its beginning in Brazil, this research has as its guiding question to raise information about the rich history of Publishing and show how it is an important area within Library Science. The research problem is based on the fact that Librarians often fail to see the great value that Publishing has, in addition to the great opportunities in its market that end up being wasted. The research uses as a method The proposed research will carry out a literature review related to the history of publishing itself according to authors and has an exploratory descriptive approach to better understand the sector and outline the ideal profile of a librarian working in the publishing area. The theoretical framework addresses a brief history of publishing and important facts that led to its development in Brazil. It also addresses some important points about the development and progress of the Brazilian publishing market, in addition to organizing the ideal profile that a librarian needs to have to work in this area and take advantage of the opportunities that will be generated. The methodology of the work consists of a bibliographic survey gathering data from other research that over time has talked about publishing and its processes. For this, tools were used that helped in the search for information, namely: Google Scholar, RIU and Scielo. It is concluded that publishing is a very rich area and that it can generate several opportunities for the librarian in the job market, being able to be divided into several areas that together have the objective of transforming information into various formats and assisting the professional himself as a channel of knowledge for people.
