Publishing has been a very important area in Library Science over the years, mainly due to its processes capable of modifying information into different formats. Considering the aspects that led to its creation and all the factors that transformed it over the years, until it became the Publishing we know today, in addition to those that were important for its beginning in Brazil, this research has as its guiding question to raise information about the rich history of Publishing and show how it is an important area within Library Science. The research problem is based on the fact that Librarians often fail to see the great value that Publishing has, in addition to the great opportunities in its market that end up being wasted. The research uses as a method The proposed research will carry out a literature review related to the history of publishing itself according to authors and has an exploratory descriptive approach to better understand the sector and outline the ideal profile of a librarian working in the publishing area. The theoretical framework addresses a brief history of publishing and important facts that led to its development in Brazil. It also addresses some important points about the development and progress of the Brazilian publishing market, in addition to organizing the ideal profile that a librarian needs to have to work in this area and take advantage of the opportunities that will be generated. The methodology of the work consists of a bibliographic survey gathering data from other research that over time has talked about publishing and its processes. For this, tools were used that helped in the search for information, namely: Google Scholar, RIU and Scielo. It is concluded that publishing is a very rich area and that it can generate several opportunities for the librarian in the job market, being able to be divided into several areas that together have the objective of transforming information into various formats and assisting the professional himself as a channel of knowledge for people. A Editoração tem sido ao longo dos anos uma área bastante importante na Biblioteconomia, principalmente pelos seus processos capazes de modificar a informação para diferentes formatos. Considerando os aspectos que levaram a sua criação e também todos os fatores que a transformaram ao longo dos anos, até se tornar a Editoração que conhecemos hoje, além daqueles que foram importantes para o seu começo no Brasil, esta pesquisa tem como questão norteadora levantar informações sobre a rica história da Editoração e mostrar como ela é uma área importante dentro da Biblioteconomia. A problemática da pesquisa se baseia no fato de que os Bibliotecários muitas vezes não conseguem enxergar o grande valor que a Editoração possui, além das grandes oportunidades no seu mercado que acabam sendo desperdiçadas. A pesquisa utiliza como método uma revisão de literatura relacionada com a própria história da editoração segundo autores e conta com uma abordagem exploratória descritiva para compreender melhor o setor e delinear o perfil ideal de um bibliotecário atuante na área editoração. O referencial teórico aborda sobre uma breve história da editoração e fatos importantes que a levaram a se desenvolver no Brasil. Aborda também alguns pontos importantes sobre o desenvolvimento e o andar do mercado editorial brasileiro, além de organizar o perfil ideal que um bibliotecário precisa ter para trabalhar nessa área e aproveitar as oportunidades que vão ser geradas. A metodologia do trabalho consiste em um levantamento bibliográfico reunindo dados de outras pesquisas que ao longo do tempo falaram sobre a editoração e os seus processos. Para isso, foram utilizadas ferramentas que auxiliaram na busca de informações, sendo eles: Google Acadêmico, RIU e o Scielo.
