Resumo:
This article presents a proposal for a neutralizing prototype to discard expired chemical products (acids and bases) and leftover solutions for practical/experimental classes. The research was carried out at E. E. Prof. Francisco Walcy Lobato Lima, which, like so many other schools, does not have a chemical waste management plan, collection and disposal service. The objective was to build a neutralizing prototype for discarding expired acid/base solutions that are generated in practical/experimental classes, giving a correct destination to these chemical residues that can bring environmental damage to human health. The methodology was based on an experimental research made from low-cost alternative materials (acrylic water bottles, scrapped suitcase, water fountain tap, flat bar, sand, marble and limestone). The experiment/test served to carry out the direct manipulation of the objects of study, following steps in the investigative process for testing and, thus, evaluating the final quality of the manipulated materials. The results showed that the neutralizer prototype is compatible with carrying out the neutralization of acidic and base solutions, generating a safe and correct disposal procedure that, together with a chemical waste management plan, can prevent the health of the school environment.
