Hemerodromia Meigen is the most diversity genus within Hemerodromiinae and it has
183 known species distributed around the world, except in Antarctica. In the Neotropical Region, the
genus has been neglected with only 10 taxonomics papers in the last century. Hemerodromia
species from Neotropical Realm is revised and full descriptions, an identification key and
distribution maps are provided. The species described by Bezzi (1909), Collin (1933),
Melander (1927, 1948) and Williston (1896) are re-described and allustrated. Thrity one new
species are described: H. bezzii sp. nov., H. bolivari sp. nov., H. brevipenis sp. nov., H.
carolina sp. nov., H. cercuserrata sp. nov., H. chaetohypandrialis sp. nov., H. colombiana sp.

sp. nov., H. nigra sp. nov., H. nigrithorax sp. nov., H. peruana sp. nov., H. pitaguary sp. nov.,
H. polleti sp. nov., H. radiobreviata sp. nov., H. recta sp. nov., H. tapeba sp. nov., H.
tawantinsuyu sp. nov., H. trilobata sp. nov. and H. wolffae sp. nov.. Hemerodromia subchelata
MacDonald is recorded for the first time to Neotropical Region and the genus also is recorded
for the first time to Colombia, Ecuador, French Guyana and Venezuela. |
