Resumo:
The tropical rainforest that covers the Negro River drainage basin upper region at São Gabriel da Cachoeira City, Amazonas State, Brazil, shows different kinds of environment, which favors species diversity. Its vegetation types are: campina and campinarana , terra firme , igapó and the rock outcrops vegetation. The present study is the result of a forest inventory conducted in this region, and its main goal was to describe tree communities using phytosociological estimators and multivariate analisys (NMDS and TWINSPAN) on data collected in a hundred 20 x 125 meters parcels distributed at São Gabriel, BR-307 and Içana, Uaupés and Curicuriari rivers. We recorded approximately 14,000 individuals with DBH greater than or equal to 10 cm. The results point out high species diversity (H = 4,41 and D-1-0.97)) and differences in horizontal structure and species composition amongst these areas.
