Resumo:
Community management of Arapaima has been implemented since 2013 at RESEX Medio Juruá Jurua and RDS Uacari, and has been growing and involves approximately 500 beneficiaries. The sustainablity and economics’ aspects of activity are barely understood. Thus, the central ideas of this study are evaluating the population trend of arapaima, the productivity and economics’ aspects of the six areas of community management of pirarucus in both reserves, looking forward to contributing with the improvement of the species’ program management. To get this, there were used secondary information of reports, technical documents and database of several organizations. To get the results of the population trends analysis were used the total of number of pirarucus by area (sq km) of the lakes where they were counted. To get the productivity analysis, was calculated the Performance Index Fishing - (IDP) and Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE). The trade process was analyzed as well as the costs of production and the balance of trade. The areas presented general trends of increasing number of pirarucus / km². The average size and weight of the caught pirarucus suggest tendency of sustainability through the activity. Four of the six areas of management presented IDP in the “great” category. Another two got fitted in the “low” category. However, there was a changing in the management system that can represent an huge issue for the sustainability of managing fishery. In some management areas the allowed quantity is based on counting of several lakes, although the fishery has been occurring only in some of them. In relation to CPUE, only one area of the analyzed region was lower the founded in other regions there is occurrence of the management of pirarucu. The medium value of selling during the last three years oscillate between R$ 5.15 and 5.90 per kilo. The commercialization process experienced by associations has been going through learning, as the new market’s opening and the diversification of improving benefits. The mainly Items of the production costs are related of logistic. All the management areas analyzed on this study presented economic performance with medium positive return of R$ 2,117.00. Once the management has been expanding, more areas has intention to realize management fishery, new and more demanding markets will need to be found. The associations have different challenges to beat, among which do a better monitoring of, to decrease the production costs and to add quality to the product, expanding its offering market. Therefore, the management program has been benefiting economically the involved families in the activity, was well as has been contributing to the conservation of the specie and indirectly to the protection of several another species.
