The purpose of the present study was to examine the incidence of syphilis among pregnant women in the city of Manaus, Amazon State - Brazil. Four hundred and fourty seven of the women who attended for the first time the Maternity Hospital "Ana Nery", during the year 1975 were chosen for the study. Three serological test were performed: a) Venereal Diseases Research Laboratory (VDRL). b) Indiret Immunefluorescence. c) Complement Fixation (Wassermann). Of these 447 study subjects. 36,69% were primipara, 61,74% were between the ages 17 to 24 and 17,44% were in their fifth month of pregnancy. |
