The discussion on gender issues has attracted attention from various segments of society, achieved visibility in the media and on social networks, as well as being the target of ideological and political disputes in the public sphere. In Brazil, since 2015, in the field of education, there has been a sharpening of these disputes due to the approval of the National Education Plan, which, due to pressure from conservative sectors of the National Congress, removed the word "gender" from the final document. This suppression had repercussions in the states and municipalities and represented a step backwards in the fight against the misogyny, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and other discriminations. Understanding the media as a complex mechanism of social representation, using the methodology of Critical Analysis of Narrative Journalism, the research sought to understand how journalistic narratives were constructed in online newspapers of Tocantins, about the controversies and disputes involving the prohibition of the discussion of gender in the municipal schools of Palmas/TO on the occasion of the publication of Provisional Measure 06/2016 that changed the Municipal Education Plan. In the constructed plot, from the events narrated by the surveyed vehicles, five speeches were highlighted that characterized the way the gender issues were approached in this context. The reproduction of religious discourses and misunderstandings in the use of terms related to the theme was evident. Most journalistic material did not provoke an effective discussion of issues pertinent to the topic, revealing only the reproduction of the facts and the speeches of those involved.
