Resumo:
In the present study work is discussed through the process of globalization from an interdisciplinary perspective in the light of Philosophy, Sociology, Communication and Psychodynamics of Work. It reflects its centrality as an important element in the constitution of the subject and of social relations. We use the understanding of the communication-work binomial, in which the latter presents itself as mediator of communication via the worker’s narrative. Our general objective is to understand the narrative of suffering at work experienced by a military police officer on leave from work. Specifically, we describe the case of a military police officer on leave from work; analyze this subject’s psychodynamics of work; and outline the possible destinies of his suffering. It is an action research, of descriptive and qualitative nature, with a case study being carried out. A listening clinic of seven sessions was started in order to access the suffering at work of the said professional. In the beginning of the sessions the police officer had been on leave from work for 15 months. He reported he opted for the Reformation because he was not in psychological conditions to return to work. At the end of the listening clinic he received his proportional retirement (proportional retirement pension) on the ground of permanent invalidity to continue as a military police officer. From the analysis of the psychodynamics of work, a contradiction between the prescribed work and the real work was identified, which in turn triggered the suffering experienced during his military career, having alcohol as a villain of its trajectory. The possible destinies of suffering outlined by the officer are directed mainly to social actions and to the work with the land. It is argued that in the dynamics experienced by him, lack appears as a central element and as a symptom that had always been present, from his early life to his military career. Hence, it was observed that his incessant search for recognition triggered a state of helplessness that led to frustration and, later, a sense of anguish and phobia, leading to the experience of suffering.
