Resumo:
The objective of the present study was to identify if the elderly who participate in the "Orientated Walk" project perceive the benefits of practicing physical activity to improve their health. From this objective we propose a reflection on the paths covered by Physical Education and its relationship with health. The research is based on previous studies by BOTH (2006), BARBOSA (2000), ERMINDA (1999), Salgado (2007), Bassit and Witter (2006), Silva (2013) and Nahas (2003). Methodologically, it is configured as a bibliographic, field and descriptive study of a qualitative nature with science as an area of knowledge. Seven women and five men aged 60 years and older participating in the above-mentioned project participated in the study in the second half of 2018. This is a qualitative study and the information collected was obtained through interviews in field research. For the analysis of the discourses we will resort to the technique elaborated by Moreira; Simões & Porto (2005) designated: Content Analysis: Technique of Elaboration and Analysis of Units of Meaning. We noticed through the participants' reports that they perceive the benefits of the practice of the activity and that the project offers these benefits, but that there is still a need for public policies aimed at this population.
