Resumo:
This work seeks to explore the contribution of the National School Feeding Program - PNAE, as an instrument for Local Development in the municipality of Santa Fé do Araguaia, in the state of Tocantins. The PNAE is a public policy aimed strategically at ensuring and improving the nutrition of students in the public school system and strengthening rural production through the acquisition of local family agriculture products. The research was carried out with 10 (ten) farmers who make up the family agriculture, which was done in a random way with semi-structured questionnaires. A survey of information was also carried out with the municipal schools, and the managers responsible for the national school feeding program in the municipality were interviewed. Primary sources were used as internal documents of ADAPEC (Agricultural Defense Agency of Tocantins) and RURALTINS (Rural Development Institute of Tocantins), and secondary sources such as bibliographical researches, and Internet consultations were carried out. The results show that difficulties in commercialization of production, especially those produced by small farmers, can be overcome by expanding public programs to support family farming
