The general objective of the study was to evaluate the project of assistance to the elderly,
through social actions promoted by the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (SMAS)
of the Municipality of Palmeirópolis, based on fundraising in the period between 2015 to
2019. Palmeirópolis is a pole city in the Southeastern Microregion of the State of
Tocantins, emancipated on June 10, 1980. According to data from IBGE (2019), the
estimated population corresponds to 7,659 people. From the beginning of this century, this
public has been experiencing a gradual development process, which started with the
construction of the Furnas-Tucuruí energy system, followed by the asphalt pavement of the
TO-498 highway, which connects the Municipality to the State of Goiás, providing
leverage in the region's economy. In order to answer the questions of the study, three
specific objectives were proposed: Describe public policies, human aging and the Laws of
support for old age, intertwining with the social responsibilities of the Municipality of
Palmeirópolis; Discuss how the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance of the
Municipality raises and executes resources, to assist the elderly in Palmeirópolis; Point out
if there were improvements in the service to the elderly, through social actions promoted
by the Secretariat of Social Assistance and carried out in the Municipality. To reflect on
the research problem, we propose the hypothesis, that is, the capture of municipal
resources brings a differential to the municipality, provides opportunities for development
in the region, offers better conditions of care for the elderly and assists in complying with
the Elderly Statute. Public policies for care for the elderly are presented in this study and
the Secretariat demonstrates attention and the implementation of the policy. Fundraising is
a strong management action within the municipality and has produced a difference in
meeting the care policies for the elderly, from 2015 to 2019. SMAS raised a total of
resources in the amount of R $ 935,895.00 (nine hundred and thirty-five thousand, eight
hundred and ninety-five reais) that were applied at the Centro do Idoso in Palmeirópolis
and in actions related to public policy for the elderly. The study with a quantitative and
qualitative nature, literature review, application of questionnaires and interviews. Bardin
(1977) was the basis for the analysis of the interviews carried out with visitors to the
Center, their families and SMAS employees. Users positively evaluate the work of
assisting the elderly and have become happier people, in being able to count on a special
attention to the elderly. Based on the study, it can be said that the Centro do Idoso in
Palmeirópolis, raises funds, complies with the policy of care for the elderly, and makes
them happier, according to the interpretation of Rodrigues (2007) in relation to happiness.
It is also the product of this study, a booklet in e-book format oriented to municipal
managers how to raise funds.
