There is currently a rapid and progressive increase in the number of the elderly popu-
lation worldwide, and here in Brazil it is no different. This advance suggests the imple-
mentation of policies to care for the elderly, in order to provide a better quality of life,
autonomy and independence in this phase. Thus, we sought to investigate which pol-
icies aimed at the elderly population are active in Tocantinópolis, as well as which
actions developed by the Federal University of Tocantins, Tocantinópolis campus,
aimed at the elderly. For the accomplishment of the work, it was used the documentary
research, of qualitative nature, reading and analysis of the documents referring to the
developed projects. Thus, analyzing documents, images and news from sites in the
region, it was noticed that the University and the municipal government, through their
Secretariats, have been developing a relevant range of projects, with activities that
seek social protection, re-education, and improvement of indexes of health and quality
of life of the elderly population Tocantinopolina.
