Resumo:
The child is a social being, historical subject and rights, and education is one of its main rights. Young children learn and thrive through caring for adults and through interactions and playfulness with other children. The aim of this study was to understand care and play as fundamental principles in the education of young children, as well as to discuss the knowledge and practices of teachers on this subject. A qualitative research based on the bibliographic study and the empirical research on the daily life of children and teachers was developed in a Municipal Infant Education Center (CMEI) in Miracema do Tocantins, TO. For data collection, observation and recording were used in the field book. The research pointed out that the institution of Early Childhood Education is mainly concerned with meeting the physical needs of children, such as food, sleep, among others, and on the other hand does not contemplate a comprehensive education.
