The aim of this study was to understand care and play as fundamental principles in the education of young children, as well as to discuss the knowledge and practices of teachers on this subject. A qualitative research based on the bibliographic study and the empirical research on the daily life of children and teachers was developed in a Municipal Infant Education Center (CMEI) in Miracema do Tocantins, TO. For data collection, observation and recording were used in the field book. The research pointed out that the institution of Early Childhood Education is mainly concerned with meeting the physical needs of children, such as food, sleep, among others, and on the other hand does not contemplate a comprehensive education. A criança é um ser social, sujeito histórico e de direitos, sendo a educação um de seus principais direitos. As crianças pequenas aprendem e se desenvolvem através do cuidado dos adultos e das interações e brincadeiras com as outras crianças. O estudo teve como objetivo compreender o cuidado e as brincadeiras como princípios fundamentais na educação das crianças pequenas, bem como discutir os conhecimentos e as práticas de professores sobre essa temática. Nesse intuito foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa, pautada no estudo bibliográfico e na pesquisa empírica sobre o cotidiano de crianças e professoras em um Centro Municipal de Educação Infantil (CMEI) em Miracema do Tocantins, TO. Para a coleta de dados foi utilizado a observação e o registro no caderno de campo. A pesquisa apontou que a instituição de Educação Infantil se preocupa principalmente em atender as necessidades físicas das crianças, como a alimentação, o sono, entre outros, e que por outro lado não contempla uma educação integral, pois ainda prevalece uma visão assistencialistas da Educação Infantil. 2021-06-25T11:20:26Z 2021-06-25T11:20:26Z 2021-06-25 Monografia ARAÚJO, Thaynara Rithyelli Ferreira.
