Resumo:
This monograph proposes an analysis on the representation of indigenous brazilians peoples in the teaching-learning processes promoted in Elementary School. Considering the relevance of school practices and discourses in the production and reproduction of conceptions about ethnic and social groups, the aim is to analyze the way in which indigenous brazilians peoples have been approached in school education. A textbook used for the teaching of History in Elementary School II was chosen as an analysis material. In addition to this material, observations and experiences accumulated during a supervised internship at a school located in Miracema do Tocantins-TO were considered when the author was sensitized by the lack of knowledge and distance shown by non-Indians in relation to indigenous brazilians peoples. The didactic material in question was subjected to a content analysis. The results point to the formation and reproduction of stereotypes about indigenous brazilians peoples through images and information that invariably prevent non-indigenous educators and students from coming into contact with the indigenous brazilians issue and, more specifically, with diversity and plurality indigenous brazilians peoples. It is believed that other research in this perspective contributes to the promotion of educational practices adequate for the consolidation of democracy in the country.
