Resumo:
This work is a monograph for the conclusion of the Pedagogy Course. Its main objective was to know and discuss social inequality in Tocantins, mediating this debate with the fight against poverty through the Bolsa Família Program and referencing these reflections with data from the program's beneficiaries in the municipality of Miracema do Tocantins. It is a qualitative research, founded on the study of scholars in the area and articulated with a research on Program documents, especially the Report of the municipality of Miracema do Tocantins. For the Bolsa Família Program, poverty is understood as a social problem related to disability or lack of income, not being analyzed as a historically and socially constructed phenomenon based on the contradictions inherent to the capitalist production process, hence its limitations to overcome this problem. The research indicates that poverty and extreme poverty have reduced in Tocantins in the last decade and that the school attendance of children benefiting from the Program in Miracema is higher than the national average.
