This study presents the function of the Public University with the Community of the
Southeast of Tocantins and Northeast Goiano, being an institution of education, research and
extension with the responsibility of transforming the social reality of the residents of the city
of Arraias - Tocantins and Region. Given this fact, the objective was to analyze the actions
developed by the University through the extension projects. Research the socio-historical-
cultural context of the Southeast region of Tocantins and Northeast Goiano, survey the
extension projects developed by the university, investigate if they are registered and analyze
the university’s relationship with the communities of the mentioned regions. The nature of
this monographic work is of qualitative characteristic of descriptive approach. Thus, as
theoretical references, a dialogue was sought between the authors Paulo Freire (1983), Luiz
Fernandes Dourado (2002), Marilena Chaui (2003), Dermeval Saviani (2010), Darcy Ribeiro
(2012), Erasmo Valadão (2018), among others. This research was conducted at the Federal
University of Tocantins of the Campus of Arraias and Comunidade, whose participants are
professors, administrators, university technicians and people residing in the community of the
Southeast region of Tocantins and the Northeast of Goiano, people who participated in the
UFT extension projects. It is observed that this research treats the University as an institution
that works with the indissociability between Research, Teaching and Extension, and these are
the elements for Public University. The Federal University has a social role to work together
with the community to alleviate the social problems faced by society, especially when it
comes to a community marked by a high rate of social inequality.
