This research aimed to investigate how the teaching of Environmental Law has
been addressed in public universities in northern Brazil. Public universities
located in the northern region of the country were chosen as the research
context. Explicit information was considered in pedagogical course projects
(PPC’s). In addition, important references to the field of Environmental Law
inspired the production of analyzes on the correlation between topics expressed
in the menus and the central themes of this field of Law. We sought to
understand, in the same perspective, the place and value attributed to the
discipline Environmental Law in the courses involved in this study. As for the
methodological approach, a qualitative study is carried out, using strategies
such as: (1) literature review and (2) document analysis. Among the materials
considered, are included: articles, dissertations and theses, as well as the
Course Pedagogical Project (PPC) of each course considered throughout the
study. Up to the present moment, the importance of the discipline
Environmental Law in the scope of training in Law is evidenced. However,
according to the analyzes made from the reading of the PPCs, there is a need
for systematization in the offer of that discipline, or related disciplines. In some
cases, Environmental Law is included in the list of mandatory subjects, often
offering in two semesters. The discussions and analyzes undertaken in the
referred field of Law strengthen the search for awareness and the adoption of
ethical and sustainable conduct in the sphere of legal practices.
