This work evaluated the perception and performance of science and biology teachers in the
learning of deaf students in the city of Porto Nacional -TO, in view of the challenges that
professionals have faced in recent decades in detriment to new technologies and teaching
modalities. For this, a descriptive research with a qualitative approach was carried out, where
each respondent indicated new participants (snowball technique) using a semi-structured script.
The interviews were granted and recorded by videoconference through the Google Meet
platform and later transcribed. We analyzed the teachers' discourse about their practices in the
classroom to understand the relevance of teacher education and activity. The results pointed to
difficulties in the performance of teachers when it comes to knowledge focused on the Brazilian
Sign Language (LIBRAS) from academic training to teaching activity. Contact with the deaf
student in the classroom is limited by the basic command of the language. Attempts to use
visual didactic strategies, in many cases, make it difficult for students to learn. Thus, the help
of the family, availability of interpreters and the survey and creation of "signal terms" aimed at
science and biology are strategies that help teachers to overcome their limitations in the use of
Sign Language and in contact with students. |
