Resumo:
This research characterizes the description of the phonetic and phonological aspects of the Karajá-Xambioá language. The Karajá-Xambioá people, also known as Karajá do Norte, are a town located on the Araguaia River with a demarcated area of 3,326,3502 there, in the municipality of Santa Fe do Araguaia in the state of Tocantins. The indigenous reserve is composed of four villages: Xambioá, Kurehê, Wari-Lyty and Hawa-Tymyra, with a population estimated at 593 people, according to DSEI-TO (2016). The Karajá language, according to Rodrigues (1986), belongs to the Macro-Jê linguistic trunk and the Karajá linguistic family, possessing in its alphabet 28 letters, being 14 consonants and 10 vowels. As a research methodology, the Xambioá villages were used to obtain data that compose the corpus of the research, as well as theoretical alignment based on some authors such as CAGLIARI (2007), SILVA CRISTÒFARO (2007), TORAL (1992), among others which support the scientific research. As preliminary results we have descriptions of vowel segments, consonant segments and phonemes of the Karajá-Xambioá language, as well as a brief explanation about the phonological achievements in this language. The research has a qualitative character and is an important contribution to the linguistic maintenance of the people, and consequently permeates and ensures a bilingual and differentiated indigenous school education.
