Resumo:
Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS's) are considered the basis for motor development, and it is in early childhood that the child has the greatest development of these skills. A factor responsible for this development is the environment in which the child lives, which will enable or not motor experiences capable of developing the child's FMS's. The aim of this study was to verify, through articles published from 1990 to 2021, whether low FMS scores are related to overweight/obesity in children aged 0 to 6 years, the age corresponding to early childhood. The poor development of FMS's, which occurs mainly during early childhood, can cause several psychological traumas, which will help the child to have a yearning for sports practices, thus being able to develop a sedentary life, and development of diseases such as overweight / obesity. Therefore, FMS's are the basis for the development of specific skills used in sports, recreation and in daily life.
