This work has a merely exploratory character and was developed from certain historical, cultural, mythical-religious and artistic data, based on works by distinguished researchers of themes that deal with the context in which Antigone was brought to light by the poet's hands. Interweaving Sophocles' text and Aristotle's writings demands efforts to understand what was the context of the time, what was the public and how it is possible to apprehend the particularities of the Theban princess in her trajectory as the heroine of the tragedy. In Antigone's verses, we can capture certain specificities of the character, contrasting her words with others, her posture in the search for good and correct behavior in the face of contempt for timeless human values. The research started with the purpose of highlighting the traits that establish Antigone as a notable example of a hero of Greek tragedy. A presente pesquisa foi delineada com o objetivo de cotejar as características da protagonista de Sófocles, Antígona, aos atributos mais destacados do herói de tragédia descrito por Aristóteles, especialmente em sua Poética. O trabalho tem caráter meramente exploratório e foi desenvolvido a partir de certos dados históricos, culturais, mítico-religiosos e artísticos, com esteio em obras de insignes pesquisadores dos temas que tratam do contexto no qual Antígona foi trazida à luz pelas mãos do poeta. Entrecruzar o texto de Sófocles e os escritos de Aristóteles demanda esforços no sentido de compreender qual era o contexto da época, qual era a plateia e como é possível apreender as particularidades da princesa tebana em sua trajetória de heroína de tragédia. Nos versos de Antígona podemos fisgar certas especificidades da personagem contrastando suas palavras frente aos demais, seu posicionamento na busca pelo bem e pelo correto proceder diante do desprezo pelos valores humanos atemporais.
