Crease in the number of diabetes, the importance of treatment adherence and self-care, promoting knowledge that enables the independence of the diabetic carrier in their choices and care of the disease is paramount. Therefore, developing food and nutrition education with diabetic patients is an important mechanism of care promotion. This paper is an experience report of food and nutrition education actions for type 1 and 2 diabetics in a health territory in the city of Palmas-Tocantins. The themes were approached in a format of 3 workshops, in a dialogical manner and the selected themes were: in the first meeting food consumption from the degree of food processing; at the second meeting the index and glycemic load of foods and dietary fibers; The third workshop was about signs, symptoms, consequences of diabetes mellitus and the importance of hydration. At the end of each workshop participants were invited to report their impressions on the developed theme, methodology as well as proposals for improvement, and the reports were very positive. The importance of approximation between the topics addressed and the reality of the target audience for the effectiveness of the workshops is emphasized.
