The objective of this review was to discuss the production practices applied in the
different agroecological poultry systems, including poultry farming , organic,
biodynamic, ecological, natural and permaculture, as a viable, sustainable and
profitable opportunity for the smallholder. The raising of chicken is a diversified
activity, can be introduced in different agroecosystems with innumerable forms of
management, being a viable option for increasing income in small farms
characterized in family agriculture. In this scenario of agroecology numerous
practices in the production system can be adopted such as the use of
mobile poultry, mandala system, interaction of birds with crops, phytotherapeutic use,
homeopathy, treatment of residues and waste, among others. These make it possible
to produce healthy foods without using external inputs that are harmful to the
environment and human health, as a result of which there is a higher added value
product.
