Considering these elements, this study deals with social policy, from its origin with emphasis on social assistance policy, as well as the historical trajectory in the Brazilian scenario. From the analysis of the social reality, it was possible to understand and conceptualize fundamental elements such as the social question and the poverty, and the forms of confrontation in Brazil. In this discussion, the mechanisms of income transfer, such as the Continuous Benefit Benefit (BPC) and the Bolsa Família Program (PBF), assume relevance, being the object of study of this research, the transfer of these resources to the municipality of Miracema do Tocantins-TO at the period between 2004 and 2016. The methodological procedure adopted was the dialectical historical materialism, the bibliographical and quantitative research, being fundamental the information collection in the official database, made available by the Ministry of Social and Agrarian Development (MDSA), among other sources officials. The research revealed that the transfer of income to the municipality studied was fundamental for the reduction of social inequality, but other structuring policies are necessary A desigualdade social é intrínseca à realidade brasileira, nesse cenário, as políticas sociais se tornam relevantes, à medida que são um mecanismo de enfrentamento da pobreza, por meio do acesso a bens e serviços àqueles que não conseguem provêlos e, simultaneamente, um instrumento do Estado para a contenção dos conflitos sociais. Considerando esses elementos, ao longo desse estudo é abordada a política social, desde a sua origem com destaque para a política de assistência social, bem como a trajetória histórica no cenário brasileiro. A partir da análise da realidade social, foi possível compreender e conceituar elementos fundamentais como a questão social e a pobreza, e as formas de enfrentamento no Brasil. Nessa discussão, assume relevância os mecanismos de transferência de renda como o Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) e o Programa Bolsa Família (PBF), sendo objeto de estudo dessa pesquisa, o repasse desses recursos para o município de Miracema do Tocantins-TO no período compreendido entre 2004 a 2016. O procedimento metodológico adotado foi o materialismo histórico dialético, a pesquisa bibliográfica e quantitativa, sendo fundamental o levantamento de informações no banco de dados oficial, disponibilizado pelo Ministério de Desenvolvimento Social e Agrário (MDSA), entre outras fontes oficiais.
