This work, a study was carried out on the geographical category place, through the teaching
experiences of students of the Escola Estadual Piaçava in the rural space of the municipality of
Nazaré, in the north of the State of Tocantins, Brazil. The central problem was to analyze to
what extent students can associate the contents of geography with the place in which they live.
The research was conducted with first-year, second-year, and third-year high school students.
The work also investigated the perspectives of the students in relation to the geographical
location in which they reside and their understanding of the relationship with the discipline of
Geography. In addition, they sought to determine the relevance of this field of study in their
daily lives. To achieve the objective, a qualitative methodology was used, using fieldwork,
interviews and questionnaires. The research was based on authors such as Santos (2005), Tuan
(1983), Ferrara (2003), Castellar (2005), Nascimento (2012), Minayo (2001), Godoy (1995),
who contributed to the reflections on the concept of place. Based on this theoretical foundation,
it was possible to understand that the place goes beyond its cultural and human characteristics,
incorporating the affectivities of the subjects and allowing them to know their history and
understand the events of the place. The results revealed adversities in the geographical
perceptions of the students in relation to the place in which they reside. |
