The text presents a study that arises from the interest in understanding the commuting
movement of students from Carolina, in Maranhão, towards Araguaína, in Tocantins, to access
higher education. This research aimed to analyze the reality experienced by these students,
verifying the challenges faced and motivations for seeking academic training. The methodology
adopted consists of a bibliographical review to support the study, using census data from the
Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) as a secondary source and the application
of questionnaires to students during their commute, using the bus as a research location.
Araguaína, as a destination for these students, is a city with better infrastructure, maintaining a
dynamic that allows the search for higher education. The results revealed information about the
students, highlighting the challenges faced, such as distance, financial difficulties and crossing
the river, and motivations such as academic training, better living conditions and boosted this
pendulum movement. Despite the difficulties faced, the study shows that pendulum movement
represents a unique opportunity for these students to achieve their goals. The need for policies
that can offer support to these students during their academic training became evident. |
