Cultural references are what characterize the groupings or nations; and the formation of nations is one of the criteria for assigning identity, which is ultimately the best negotiation tool between what one is and what one can be. Nation and identity are linked to customs, which are the culture of the people. The major challenge of this study is the search for discursive elements that can help in the formation of the identity of Tocantins. To this end, it is assumed that some of the most important creators of the local music make this speech. As the object of the research 24 works of six regional narrators were chosen to understand the elements that regional music mobilizes around the expression of the identity of this territory, in the light of the Critical Analysis of Narrative proposed by the Brazilian theorist Luiz Gonzaga Motta. At the end, the most relevant conclusion is that the composer of regional music of Tocantins remains in a continuous effort to sing his own village.
