Nation and identity are linked to customs, which are the culture of the people. The major challenge of this study is the search for discursive elements that can help in the formation of the identity of Tocantins. To this end, it is assumed that some of the most important creators of the local music make this speech. As the object of the research 24 works of six regional narrators were chosen to understand the elements that regional music mobilizes around the expression of the identity of this territory, in the light of the Critical Analysis of Narrative proposed by the Brazilian theorist Luiz Gonzaga Motta. At the end, the most relevant conclusion is that the composer of regional music of Tocantins remains in a continuous effort to sing his own village. As referências culturais são o que caracterizam os agrupamentos ou nações, e a formação de nações é um dos critérios para se atribuir identidade, que é, em última análise, a melhor ferramenta de negociação entre o que se é e que se pode ser. Nação e identidade estão ligadas aos costumes, que são a cultura do povo. O desafio maior deste estudo está na procura por elementos discursivos que possam ajudar na formação da identidade tocantinense. Para tanto, parte-se do princípio de que alguns dos mais importantes criadores da música local fazem este discurso. Como objeto da pesquisa foram escolhidas 24 obras de seis narradores reconhecidamente regionais para, à luz da Análise Crítica da Narrativa proposta pelo teórico brasileiro Luiz Gonzaga Motta, entender os elementos que a música regional mobiliza em torno da expressão da identidade deste território.
