This paper addresses the issue of child labor and reflections on the contribution of
social service to the production of knowledge, which emerged in the colonial period in
Brazilian history. This deeply naturalized situation has only aroused interest for study
and debate since the mid-1990s. The objective of this study is to make an exploratory
analysis of the issue of child labor, identifying the main forms and strategies for the
eradication of child labor. Identifying the public policies involved in dealing with the
issue, demonstrating the approach of the professional social worker to early work. The
methodology used was based on the foundations of the qualitative documentary study.
In this sense, it was evidenced the need to show the historical events, thus making a
trajectory until arriving at the current days, the work of the social worker is of paramount
importance to the confrontation of early work, where the main actions to confront the
issue are concentrated.
