Resumo:
This paper aims to analyze the environmental and social impacts caused by the expansion of agricultural activity on the borders of the Xerente territory, in Tocantínia, in the state of Tocantins, in the first decades of the 21st century. The Akwĕ community has been suffering from the expansion of agricultural activity of large monoculture enterprises (Proceder III) and faces conflicts of interests in the region. The methodology used is bibliographic research, academic articles and articles published in the press, as well as the analysis of maps and impact reports produced by IBAMA and other institutions that present economic and social data on the issue. We also intend to conduct interviews with Akwĕ chiefs and indigenous leaders. The results of the research are currently being prepared. The Akwĕ People are located in the Northern Region of Brazil, in what is now the state of Tocantins, on the right bank of the Tocantins River, in the municipality of Tocantínia, 75 kilometers to the north of Palmas, the state capital, with a population of approximately 5,000 people. They occupy indigenous areas called T.I. Xerente and T.I. Funil
