The research sought to understand the relationships between urban violence, specifically
painful homicides, and the built environment in the peripheral areas of Palmas -TO, in the
context of land issues and the right to the city. Initially, the places where crime occurred most
frequently were defined and, subsequently, they sought to establish an explanation with
possible weaknesses related to the land regularization process, socioeconomic indicators and
the provision of minimum public urban infrastructure services. The research was converted by
descriptive-reflective analysis with a qualitative-quantitative approach based on bibliographical
research, to conduct theoretical-conceptual support, and documentary and secondary data
research, to carry out the empirical investigation. As a preliminary discussion, presented in the
third chapter, a bibliographical review was carried out that relates urbanization, urban
environment and lethal violence. This chapter is divided into three large annexes. Subitem 3.1
presents a quantitative overview of the historical series of Intentional Violent Deaths (MVI) in
Brazilian states, in the period from 2011 to 2020. Subitem 3.2 discusses Palmas specifically,
presents the process of occupation of the city, when the condition of socio-spatial segregation
associated with income inequality and conflicts over access to urbanized land, with a focus on
the location of Irregular Settlements, Special Zones of Social Interest (ZEIS) and Municipal
Public Areas (APMs) with occupations. As a conclusion to the third chapter, item 3.3 presents
the relationship between homicides and the urban environment of the city of Palmas. The
analysis returned positively for most of the events researched, demonstrating that most of the
areas that recorded a higher concentration of intentional homicides lack land regularization and
urban infrastructure and also present the worst rates for the socioeconomic criteria analyzed. |
