Resumo:
The study of the indigenous question has been neglected in the history of Brazil. Indigenous peoples were seen as belonging to the past and that their survival, when admitted, was only physical, since these peoples should be integrated into national society. The textual production presents itself as a general objective to analyze the Indigenous Literature in the textbooks of the 9th year of Elementary School and the 3rd year of High School at Professor Florêncio Aires College in the city of Porto Nacional-TO. This is a qualitative descriptive bibliographic research. In order for Brazilian students of basic education to have knowledge of indigenous histories and cultures, Law nº 11,645 was enacted. This law modified the National Education Guidelines and Bases Laws, making it mandatory to include Afro- Brazilian and indigenous history and culture in the official curriculum of the entire basic education teaching network. With this law, textbooks emphasized with greater value the role of the Indian in the history of Brazil, highlighting their performance by highlighting their history and culture, but they are still far from presenting profound changes as the indigenous peoples aim for.
