Resumo:
This research took place in the city of Afuá, Pará State. In this city is for more than thirty years, the Shrimp Festival which has become now the largest artistic and cultural manifestation of the Marajó archipelago. Thus, the objective of this research from the Shrimp Festival and Battle Camaroeira, is to seek the understanding of how afuaense population has kept alive the tradition. The research was participatory observation, application of semistructured questionnaires to the community, as well as conducting interviews with residents and creators of the Shrimp Festival and Battle Camaroeira. The aim is to consider and analyze the elements that work in the construction, maintenance and transformation of a cultural identity based on some studies Stuart Hall (1992), Manuel Castells (1999) and Renato Ortiz (1994). Thus, it is evident the search for self-affirmation of afuaenses that from their local culture, aimed at creating elements that work in the construction and maintenance of its identity, therefore, the Shrimp Festival and the Battle Camaroeira are symbols of this struggle.
