Thus, the objective of this research from the Shrimp Festival and Battle Camaroeira, is to seek the understanding of how afuaense population has kept alive the tradition. The research was participatory observation, application of semistructured questionnaires to the community, as well as conducting interviews with residents and creators of the Shrimp Festival and Battle Camaroeira. The aim is to consider and analyze the elements that work in the construction, maintenance and transformation of a cultural identity based on some studies Stuart Hall (1992), Manuel Castells (1999) and Renato Ortiz (1994). Thus, it is evident the search for self-affirmation of afuaenses that from their local culture, aimed at creating elements that work in the construction and maintenance of its identity, therefore, the Shrimp Festival and the Battle Camaroeira are symbols of this struggle. Esta pesquisa deu-se na cidade de Afuá, Estado do Pará. Nesta cidade ocorre há mais de trinta anos o Festival do Camarão que se tornou hoje a maior manifestação artística e cultural do arquipélago do Marajó. Dessa forma, o objetivo desta pesquisa a partir do Festival do Camarão e da Batalha Camaroeira, é buscar a compreensão de como a população afuaense vem mantendo viva a sua tradição. A pesquisa contou com a observação participativa, aplicação de questionários semiestruturados à comunidade, assim como com a realização de entrevistas com moradores e idealizadores do Festival do Camarão e da Batalha Camaroeira. Visa-se considerar e analisar os elementos que atuam na construção, manutenção e transformação de uma identidade cultural tendo como base alguns estudos de Stuart Hall (1992), Manoel Castells (1999) e Renato Ortiz (1994).
