The article is a case study of the physical conditions of the institution itself, and aims to identify the barriers that hinder or prevent the access of people with physical, visual, hearing or mobility impairments. The theoretical reference is based on the laws, decrees, and ABNT norms, which ensure the exercise of individual and social rights of these people. For this research we used the post-occupancy evaluation method and the on-site checklist type instrument with photographic documentation. During the visits we also verified the accesses to the areas adjacent to the public buildings observed, from the arrival of the users, including pedestrian crosswalks, lowering of the curbs at strategic points, tactile floor in walkways, corridors, ramps and elevators. It shows that the legislation in force, which guarantees access for the handicapped, is being disrespected, in evidence of the ignorance and disregard of the public authorities, as well as of the professionals in the area of civil construction who are co-responsible for guaranteeing the exercise of citizenship by this segment of the population. |
