Therefore, it was developed a bibliographic research in which was listed articles published in newspapers, magazines and websites, characterizing itself as a descriptive research. The main results point the weaknesses in the proper use of statistical tools, such as: bars of graphics with disproportional widths and sizes, incompatibility of the data labels with the values of the vertical axis, absence of the ordinate axis, omission of zero and interruption of the scale at the beginning of the vertical axis in line graphics inadvertently, imprecision of allegorical figures within pictograms etc. It was noticed that there is a need a better statistical training of the professionals of the press, because the graphic communication is being used in an inadequate way by the mass media sometimes. In addition to the need of a population literate statistically. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo abordar e analisar os erros contidos em gráficos estatísticos publicados na mídia, buscando a construção de subsídios para a interpretação e análise crítica dessas ferramentas no contexto das práticas de letramento estatístico. Para tanto foi desenvolvido uma pesquisa de natureza bibliográfica na quais foram arroladas matérias publicadas em jornais, revistas e sites, caracterizando-se, assim, como uma pesquisa descritiva. Os principais resultados apontam fragilidades na utilização adequada das ferramentas estatísticas, tais como: barras dos gráficos com larguras e tamanhos desproporcionais, Incompatibilidade dos rótulos dos dados com os valores do eixo vertical, ausência do eixo das ordenadas, omissão do zero e interrupção da escala no início do eixo vertical em gráficos de linhas de forma inadvertida, Imprecisão das figuras alegóricas dentro de pictogramas etc. A partir dos resultados conclui-se que há necessidade de uma melhor formação estatística dos profissionais da imprensa, pois a comunicação gráfica está sendo utilizada, algumas vezes, de maneira inadequada pelos meios de comunicação.
