Food losses and wastes occur at all stages of the production chain, on a worldwide scale it is estimated that, each year, approximately 1.3 billion tons of food are lost in the world and the fight against food waste throughout country is necessary and must be intensified with accurate public policies, with the participation of human society in general. The research based on the literature is due to the fact that during the information survey, Pandemic was established, COVID -19, in the midst of humanity, preventing the field research that I had already conceived before the pandemic was not feasible. if it is done, for this reason, we have chosen to study in the literature: in articles, books, theses and CBT, dissertations and in laws, which fostered the proposed theme. The general objective of the study was to know how food waste presents itself and the role of environmental education in this process, with the following guiding questions: what is the scenario of food waste and the role of environmental education to avoid such waste? What are the consequences of food waste that can cause the environment? The study method is based on the inductive, with a qualitative approach. The main results were: food losses along the production chain prevail in developing countries, waste, in turn, is also prevalent in developed countries; that food waste and loss is a serious problem to be solved in several countries; that Brazil is on the list of the 10 (ten) countries that most waste food in the world, generating discard of approximately 30% of everything that is produced for consumption. This generates a loss for the economy of almost 940 billion dollars a year, affecting several working classes and the development of the country; that in Brazil there is a law for the issue of food waste, No. 8.137 / 90 of the Consumer Protection Code, “It constitutes a crime against consumer relations”: IX - selling, having a deposit to sell or displaying for sale or, in any way, deliver raw material or merchandise, in conditions unfit for consumption; that environmental education can be an instrument capable of contributing to educational practices, in order to face food waste, for example: practices of sustainability's R's, reducing, rethinking, refusing and reusing; and that any nation needs to expand accurate public policies to combat the eradication of food waste.
