Resumo:
The National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS, Law No. 12,305 / 10) establishes guidelines for the correct destination of the generated waste, since the inadequate management of waste can cause serious environmental, social and economic problems, affecting health and quality of population life. Depending on the principles of the legislation, the present work recognizes the economic and social value of the reusable and recyclable solid waste as a generator of work and income and promoter of citizenship. In this sense, the objective is to propose the implementation of a Sorting and Composting Center for solid urban waste combined with an environmental education space. The defined location started from the understanding of the waste collection route carried out in the municipality and the current location of the Landfill, thus being located in the west of Macapá. The following research procedures were used: (1) bibliographic survey on the theme of sustainability in urban policies and basic sanitation aimed at solid waste; (2) design references of spaces already built linked to the needs program; (3) exploratory research through interview, field visit and local diagnosis. The research enabled the understanding of the problem of the final disposal of solid waste in the municipality and how the lack of information regarding the correct disposal of these materials comes from an institutional absence of collection of recyclable material. As a result, the proposal for the Waste Sorting and Environmental Education Center was developed in order to contribute to the constitution of a local public policy by encouraging practices of conscious consumption, recycling and reuse of materials until their final disposal.
