Resumo:
The problem raised in this research work deals with the reading difficulty of 6th grade students, with the hypothesis that students do not have the habit of reading outside the school environment, as well as the methodology applied by the teacher is unsatisfactory and an illiterate family environment. In view of the data analysis, the hypotheses raised for this field research were refuted, since in the tabulation of the data it was revealed that students usually read several textual genres, in addition, they stated that they usually read at home, presenting an index of 65% and that their parents have the habit of reading at home, which corresponds to a percentage of 63%. However, these same students stated that they have reading difficulties, with an index of 62%. Thus, there is a contradiction in the statements of these students, when the data say that most have reading difficulties and especially when students say that 44% of colleagues do not like to read and learn unintentionally.
