The Abaetetuba-PA riverside communities are among those facing serious problems in the disposal of solid waste, giving them convenient but inadequate treatment. In this sense, this work was carried out in public schools of three riverside communities in the city, from January to December 2018, whose objective was to analyze the practice of Environmental Education as a motivator of sustainable actions regarding the proper use and handling of waste. solid. The research is qualitative and quantitative and participated in the work students of 8th and 9th grade of elementary school. Questionnaires were applied and pedagogical practices were developed, such as lectures, extracurricular activities, workshops and the elaboration of an environmental education booklet. The results were positive and are presented through graphs and tables. It was found that, before the activities, more than half of the students of the three schools, about 70%, were unaware of concepts such as sustainability, environmental education, solid waste, among others, and found the correct destination that their community was giving to household waste, as well as certain old practices of the population such as burning of waste. After the pedagogical activities we can notice the change of mentality in these students. With the knowledge acquired and through the introduction of environmental education, 90% of students thought and acted in a sustainable manner, even condemning any practice that could endanger the environment and their quality of life. Thus, they began to look for alternatives that could alleviate the consequences of improper disposal of solid waste. In addition, they began to bring information from their relatives and those interested in the topic, which until then was known to few. With this, they become multipliers of sustainable actions, contributing to the maintenance of their quality of life. Through an interview with the representative of the Secretariat of the Environment, we learned about projects aimed at minimizing the problem of solid waste disposal on the Abaetetuba Islands and the environmental booklet contributed to promote reflection and motivate the student to new ecological practices. The expected result is that new booklets will be produced and worked with students from all grades in both urban and rural areas of other municipalities and thus expand the practice of environmental education for the protection and preservation of the environment. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Uma das maiores preocupações ambientais da sociedade contemporânea, são as consequências que o consumo excessivo de produtos de origem industrial causa sobre a natureza, principalmente o destino dado após o seu uso, essa preocupação é observada tanto na área urbana quanto na rural. As comunidades ribeirinhas de Abaetetuba-PA estão entre as que enfrentam sérios problemas na eliminação dos resíduos sólidos, dando-lhes o tratamento que é conveniente, porém inadequado. Nesse sentido, esse trabalho foi realizado em escolas públicas de três comunidades ribeirinhas do município, no período de Janeiro a Dezembro de 2018, cujo objetivo foi o de analisar a prática da Educação Ambiental como motivadora de ações sustentáveis quanto ao uso e manuseio adequado dos resíduos sólidos. A pesquisa é de caráter quali-quantitativo e participaram do trabalho alunos do 8º e 9º ano do ensino fundamental. Foram aplicados questionários e desenvolvidas práticas pedagógicas como: palestras, atividades extraclasse, oficinas e elaboração de uma cartilha de educação ambiental, os resultados foram positivos e são apresentados através de gráficos e tabelas. Foi verificado que, antes das atividades, mais da metade dos alunos das três escolas, cerca de 70%, desconhecia conceitos como sustentabilidade, educação ambiental, resíduos sólidos, entre outros, e achavam correto o destino que sua comunidade estava dando ao lixo doméstico, assim como consideravam certas algumas práticas antigas da população como a queima do lixo. Após as atividades pedagógicas podemos perceber a mudança de mentalidade nesses alunos. Com o conhecimento adquirido e através da introdução da educação ambiental, 90% dos alunos pensaram e agiram de maneira sustentável, condenando inclusive, qualquer prática que pudesse colocar em risco o meio ambiente e sua qualidade de vida. Dessa forma, passaram a buscar alternativas que pudessem amenizar as consequências do descarte inadequado dos resíduos sólidos. Além disso, passaram a levar as informações seus familiares e a quem se interessasse pelo tema, que até então era de conhecimento de poucos. Com isso, tornam-se multiplicadores de ações sustentáveis, contribuindo para a manutenção de sua qualidade vida. Através da entrevista com representante da secretaria de meio ambiente soube-se da existência de projetos voltados a minimizar o problema do descarte dos resíduos sólidos nas ilhas de Abaetetuba e a cartilha ambiental contribuiu para promover a reflexão e motivar o aluno a novas práticas ecológicas.
