The World Health Organization characterizes a transit as public health problem, why it justifies the concerns and efforts of various countries to create policies that will curb the ever-increasing levels of traffic accidents that bring social and financial losses everyone. In this sense, the preservation of the infrastructure of highways wins a role in discussions dealing with accidents and its causes, rather than of a roadway infrastructure can be identified as a factor for such occurrences. Against this, this paper aims to investigate how the precarious structure of Federal Highway BR 316, between 0-10 kilometers, increased the occurrence of accidents transit in years 2009-2012. Therefore, it employed a methodology based on theoretical explorations combined with analysis information from the database of the Highway Patrol Federal and field research, materialized from the slideshow illustrative excerpt researched, enabling the development of a new Quality Index for the highway. The data were collected from the treated application of descriptive and multivariate statistical techniques to order to confirm the hypothesis raised. It is noteworthy that, in the passage researched the flow of vehicles and pedestrians is intense and, in addition, is a mileage interval that presents several problems Structural as, for example, increase and decrease in the number of lanes, the poor quality of returns, lack of health and safety of walkways, discontinuity of shoulders, the inadequacy of bus stops, anyway. As respect to accidents and their causes, it could be seen that the 2010 there were more occurrences especially of the type collision with bicycle collision with moving object, frontal collision collision cross, motivated by disobeying traffic signs, incompatible speed, alcohol intake, among others. Finally, it should be noted the fact that in the passages considered bad, and the lack of attention, the main cause of accidents is the defect in duplicate, were then confirming the hypothesis the precariousness of highway infrastructure potentiated the occurrences of traffic accidents in the period 2009-2012. Given this, we can say that the traffic accident is a social fact, consolidating as a problem involving both socio-political and cultural aspects of modern society, but it is also potentiated by the structural condition of highways.
