Comparative studies are carried out with the other two breeds of Southeast and Southern Brazil, Sibynomorphus mikani mikani (Schlegel) and Sibynomorphus mikani neuwiedi (Ihering), concluding that the new subspecies is the northernmost form of the genus, with meristic characters Inferior to those of the two mentioned races, and with differences of staining. Descrição e análise taxonômica de uma nova subespécie, Sibynomorphus mikani septentrionalis do Estado do Maranhão, que ocorre próximo aos limites da floresta Amazônica.
