The analysis of the germination potential of palms represents a significant advance for domestication and exploitation of the food, economic and energy potential. Palm trees can multiply by gametic or agamic processes, in very different proportions. Few are the genera that multiply by tillering or shoots, thus propagation via seed is the most common. Aiming to evaluate the germination potential and the development of vegetative characters of six palm species from the Amazonian estuary, an experiment was set up at Ilha do Combu, Municipality of Acará, Pará State. The seeds of the species E. oleracea Mart. (var. Preto, Branco e Espada), B. major Mart. B. major Mart. 1. exorrizha Wendl. Desmoncus sp. and Geonoma sp. were subjected to germination in suspended sowing. Three treatments with three repetitions were established, with a total of 300 seeds per treatment, which were: Ti (control), T2 (with scarification), T3 (without scarification). After germination, the development of the seedlings was followed using the following parameters The percentage of germinated seeds, the average radicle and stalk length and the number of leaflets. The T2 treatment showed greater efficiency in all the parameters observed. Among all species, the açaí, Preto variety, showed a higher germination potential as well as a greater development of the vegetative characters evaluated.
