It is occupied by extensive mangroves, which constitute the dominant environmental unit, preceded, on the Atlantic façade, by sandy arrows, beaches and dune systems. Aiming at the environmental characterization of the restinga of Maiandeua, located west of Algodoal Island (Maracanã), a morpho-botanical transect in E-W direction, perpendicular to the actual coastline, was carried out, integrating data relative to the morphology of the study area and the plant communities. Six units were individualized: Beach, Sandy Cliff, Dunes Field, Shrub Field, Herbaceous Field and Lower Coastal Plateau (CNPq, FNMA/IBAMA). A APA de Algodoal/Maiandeua compõe a faixa costeira do nordeste do Estado do Pará. que é ocupada por extensos manguezais, os quais constituem a unidade ambiental dominante, precedidos, na fachada atlântica, por flechas arenosas, praias e cordões dunares. Objetivando a caracterização ambiental da restinga de Maiandeua, localizada a oeste da ilha de Algodoal (Maracanã), foi realizado um transecto morfo-botânico de direção E-W, perpendicular à linha de costa atual, com integração de dados relativos à morfologia da área de estudo e das comunidades vegetais.
