The studies are directed to the Algodoal/Maiandeua APA (law nº 5.261 of November 1990), which is located between the coordinates 00° 35'03" to 00° 38'29" Lat. S. and 47° 31 '54" to 47° 34 '57" Long.W. Gr., composing the coastal strip of the NE of the State of Pará. This has a general direction NW -SE, presenting fluvial-estuarine characteristics, being a low and jagged coast, integrated by low plateaus, mangroves, dune fields and beaches, composing elongated bays and sandy Atlantic arrows, suffering local climatic influences and specific effects of the sea front. The research results show the environmental characterization of the Restinga de Maiandeua, which is located west of the Algodoal Island, in the municipality of Maracanã, obtained through a plani-altimetric transect of E-W direction, perpendicular to the actual coastline, relating the data obtained about the geomorphology of the area and the existing vegetal communities. Five geobotanical units were described: beach, sandy cliff, dune field, temporary lake and low coastal plateau. The methodological application and the results achieved allow raising questions about the ordering of the vegetation in terms of phytophysiognomy and phytosociology from the beach zone, relating it to the abiotic variables (climate, salinity, wave and tide action, temperature, rainfall action and others), to better understand the functioning of the restinga ecosystem, in a local context, with possibilities of correlation at the regional level.
