The Tocantins River Valley region is one that, since the end of the last century, has prompted various governmental measures, beginning with the construction of the Tocantins Railroad in 1893, and running through to the mid 1970s with the construction of the Transamazon Highway and the Tucuruí Hydro-Power Complex. This work is a study of state policy for the Tocantins Valley region through an analysis of Government Plans and a review of existing literature on the region. All works (including periodicals) existing in the library of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi were retrieved and identified, dealing with the following subjects: Railroads, Development Plans, Carajás, Tocantins and Tucuruí, including their subdivisions. There are a total of 252 works, ranging from travelers' accounts from the end of the last century to the State Plans of the 1990s of this century. These works were classified in Standard Files, by subject, title and author. The next phase of the work will be the selection of the works that will be submitted for analysis. |
