It aims to observe the symbolism present in the food of migrant women, as well as to gather all the aspects of the concept of "food taboos", and to contribute to the studies about the Amazonian food customs. Data collection through informal conversations and formal interviews with form and tape recorder were the methods used. The average migration time among the interviewees ranges from 18 years to two months. Most of the interviewees come from the municipality of Cururupu in Maranhão. We noticed that women over the age of 30 still maintain (and teach their daughters) the food taboos taught by their parents and grandparents, mainly because they were raised (childhood/adolescence) in their city of origin. Meanwhile the women daughters of migrants who grew up in the capital do not keep these taboos. O presente trabalho pretende desvendar a expressão-simbólica contida nos tabus alimentares de mulheres que migraram do interior para a capital, procurando perceber se eles (tabus) ainda persistem, mesmo após a migração. Tem como objetivo observar o simbolismo presente na alimentação de mulheres migrantes, assim como reunir todos os aspectos do conceito de "tabus alimentares", e contribuir para os estudos sobre os costumes alimentares da Amazônia. Coleta de dados através de conversas informais e entrevistas formais com formulário e gravador foram os métodos utilizados. A média de tempo de migração entre as entrevistadas oscila de 18 anos a dois meses. A maioria das entrevistadas vem do município de Cururupu no Maranhão. Percebemos que as mulheres em idade acima de 30 anos, ainda mantêm (e ensinam às suas filhas) os tabus alimentares ensinados por seus pais e avós principalmente por terem sido criadas (infância/adolescência) na sua cidade de origem.
