Actually, the experiment simulates what occurs in the forest, in case of a prolonged El Niño. In the physical structure, it consists of an area of one hectare (parcel B) covered by plastic plates, making it difficult the entrance of the rain water, around 90%. An another parcel, of one hectare (Parcel A) serving of reference, also receiving normally the rain water. These parcels are delimited by trenches, whose depth varies from 50 to 150 cm the maintenance of plastic is naturally made, because of fall of twigs, trees and of the instruments, as much in the surface, as in the layers below of the ground. The ground temperature and humidity data, from the years of 2006 and 2007 had been studied in its variation, of the two parcels. The results show that the parcel A, in terms of ground humidity, presented greater variation, when comparative with parcel B, and this kept constant in the studied levels. Already the ground temperature in parcel B always was above of the ground temperature of parcel A, in all the studied levels, because this parcel was presented in hidric stress. O Experimento ESECAFLOR consiste na simulação de um período de seca prolongada na floresta, para avaliar o impacto da seca nos fluxos de água, em uma floresta tropical Amazônica, investigando a influência da exclusão da água no solo, sobre o ciclo da floresta e as alterações provocadas pelo evento, simulando o fenômeno El Niño, que afeta a parte oriental da Amazônia, na diminuição das chuvas. Na realidade, o experimento simula o que ocorre na floresta, em caso de um El Niño prolongado. Na estrutura física, consta de uma área de 1 hectare(parcela B) coberta por placas plásticas, dificultando a entrada da água da chuva, em torno de 90%. Uma outra parcela, também de 1 hectare(Parcela A) servindo de referência, recebendo, normalmente a água da chuva. Essas parcelas são delimitadas por trincheiras, cuja profundidade varia de 50 a 150 cm. A manutenção das placas plásticas é feita naturalmente, em virtude de queda de galhos, árvores e dos instrumentos, tanto na superfície, como nas camadas abaixo do solo. Os dados de temperatura do solo e umidade do solo, dos anos de 2006 e 2007 foram estudados na sua variação, nas duas parcelas. Os resultados encontrados mostram que a parcela A, em termos de umidade do solo, apresentou maior variação, quando comparada com a parcela B, e essa se manteve constante nos níveis estudados.
